Doctor in Philosophy in Applied Mathematics

Studying in applied mathematics with courses in Numerical Methods, Ordinary/Partial Differential Equations, Machine Learning, and Probability. Serving over summers as a Research Associate in opinion information and simulations. Utilizing Python, MATLAB, and Julia to run simulations and computation while working with VS Code, Git, and Dropbox to store and collaborate.

Completed a traditional path of mathematics with topics such as abstract algebra, applied analysis, and introductory topology. Participated in REU program to explore Game Theory and infectious disease modelling.

Research Associate III

Regional Center for Public Policy, Mangilao, GU

The University of Guam (UOG) was contracted to assess treatment courts and programs servicing individuals on probation by the Judiciary of Guam (JOG). Through data collection and analysis, my role is to gather information and create an evaluation report on effectiveness and success. Conducted interviews of clients, staff, and stakeholders to measure impact of court programs to its community. This report is utilized for grant funding by the Department of Justice (DOJ) to justify monies to implement said treatment courts given that  standards are being met. Collecting and auditing data sources as well as analyses using VS Code and Git to update deliverables in a timely manner. Along with these reports my duty extends to making recommendations and highlights of these programs.

January 2023 - December 2023

Program Coordinator II

Department of Public Health & Social Services (DPHSS), Tamuning, GU

This position continued the work done with the CDC Foundation but also worked to help the Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) Program and Office of Epidemiology and Research (OER) at Guam DPHSS to apply for federal grant funding. The role not only relied on my statistics and data science abilities but relied on providing training, budget allocation, and grant writing. Through grant writing we received a total of $4.7 million dollars in grant funding to monitor infectious diseases on the island. The work required collaboration with local hospitals and laboratories to equip for different type of disease surveillance equipment. To add, it warranted the need to build up data infrastructure and literacy through trainings and IT. This occupation required of me to track grant activities and accurately measure and report on the completion of these activities to ensure proper use of federal funds as well as apply for renewal or new grants.

Data Analyst / Research & Statistical Systems Analyst II

CDC Foundation, Tamuning, GU

This job entails working for the Foundation for the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC Foundation) in junction with Guam's Department of Public Health \& Social Services (DPHSS). The work consisted of creating actionable reports around the COVID-19 pandemic on the island of Guam. The job requires weekly comprehensive reporting and statistical analysis in the Situation Reports that incorporate: travel, age, sex, symptoms, testing type, isolation, contact tracing, etc. This occupation also requires I adhere to data requests that are going to be used in court rulings, law making, and policy review. It required the knowledge and skills to update and maintain a database, in particular the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS) Base System (NBS). As well as work with data analysis that is incorporated into NSSP for syndromic surveillance on the island.  I was given the title of Surveillance Branch Director which entails that I supervise the flow of information to all branches of the DPHSS, and to coordinate with others on how to best combat COVID-19. This required of me to package data into actionable reports and visualizations using softwares available (ARCGIS, R Studio, SPSS) to accurately convey the status of the island during the pandemic.

Adjunct Instructor

University of Guam, Mangilao, GU

Teaching the Introduction to College Algebra, Fundamentals of Mathematics, and Introductory Statistics courses at the University of Guam. This job entails preparatory work before and after class to ensure the efficiency of instructional time. It entails being able to adjust from in classroom to online platforms without having gaps in skills and content. It incorporates teaching mathematical/statistical softwares and methodologies used in a professional setting. Recording and measuring performance of myself and my students. It required creating lesson plans, meet learning outcomes, be flexible through both in person and online learning, and meet students outside of lecture to further explain content. It requires great communication skills, proficiency, and creativity to help all students stay engaged and educated.
