I am Vince Campo, a Chamorro, native of the island of Guam, mathematician. I am currently a PhD student at Arizona State University (ASU) int he Applied Mathematics program. My interest in research include mathematical modelling, machine learning, epidemiology, and stochastic processes. My skills and experience stem from my time as a Data Analyst and Research and Statistical Systems Analyst with the CDC Foundation. Outside of my profession and academics, I play the saxophone and try to volunteer where I can. Overall, I aspire to complete my program and increase my skills and experience to break into industry.
Vince Campo is a PhD student in Applied Mathematics at Arizona State University (ASU). He earned his Bachelors in Science in Mathematics from the University of Guam (UOG). Within his undergraduate program, Vince participated in the National Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) where he studied disease modelling and Game Theory. He furthered his research and studied in topics of Mathematical Biology, Infectious Disease Modelling and Epidemiological Practices.
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, he utilized his skills and knowledge by working for the Foundation of the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC Foundation) as a Research & Statistical Systems Analyst II. Here he studied infectious disease transmission as well as propose further studies into effects of COVID-19 on populations with co-morbidities. He continued this work in disease modelling by participating in the REU at UOG as a research mentor and co-investigator.
Post-pandemic life boosted Vince into the field of Data Science where he acquired skills in programming and data visualization. This led to his position of data analyst which tested his knowledge in cleaning, analyzing, and visualizing data into reports and dashboards. He also worked as a Program Evaluator and Program Coordinator at UOG and Guam Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) respectively. This occupation used his expertise in data analysis to assess the impact these programs had on their clients and the community.
Outside of the professional realm, He volunteers in the local community to increase awareness and support of the arts, by volunteering and performing with the Guam Territorial Band. He also participates in community events such as clean-ups and community education outreach. He aspires to be a leader among his community and to inspire his fellow Guamanians to achieve higher.
